Also known as “kinesitherapy” from the Greek “movement therapy”, this technique is functional rehabilitation for the purpose of reinforcing and increasing musculature. Treatment consists of a combination of movements performed by the physical therapist such as rubbing, pressure, kneading, percussion, and vibration, and the active movements made by the receiver through voluntary muscle contraction. Kinesitherapy is recommended wherever there is an impairment in movement, and is also successfully used in sports training in the preparation of the athlete’s muscles for competition. |
